...is how I was greeted at the Greenland's farm village Christmas Fair! A very friendly Scottish stallholder told me she had been living in exile for a number of years and was pleased to see a bit of Tartan. I had to disappoint her with my accent but told her a little of our family history and assured her it was the family Tartan, Morrison.
She complemented me a number of times on my ensemble which is such a change from the odd looks I often receive when walking through the village.

My Dad had the mini kilt made for my mum in either late 1969 or early 1970 they can't quite remember which trip to Scotland it was!

We decided to visit the farm & Fair after the Remembrance Service, we'd never been before, it's less than an hour's drive & best of all it was free! By the time we arrived I'd completely forgotten I had the camera in my bag, Not until we were walking round the farm so you'll have to take my word for it that the Christmas fair was lovely. Held in an old barn with plenty of Christmas decorations & twinkly lights, a warming glass of mulled wine just topped off the festive atmosphere.
Mr Pixie being a farm boy was eager to wander round the open farm and view the rare and not so rare breeds.

It was pretty windy so I'm having to hold my kilt down!

There was also a wonderful farm shop; A lovely on site pottery where you could make and/or paint all kind of things from pots on a wheel to tree decorations, a fine wine shop where we manged NOT to buy anything, a goldsmiths and a Garden Centre. We finished the day with a Cream Tea in the wonderful cafe which doubles as an Italian Restaurant in the evenings. Again bad blogger that I am forgot to take pictures until Mr Pixie was on the very last bite.

November Rain & Gloom

It has been dark & dismal for the last few days, Sunday's sunshine seems so far away. I've been waiting for some better weather not only to lift our spirits but to take some photo's of the bits and bobs I've picked up recently, but the November Rain & Gloom have certainly set in so here are few shots of today's outfit.

Distracted by the TV

The pictures were taken with the self timer so I'm pulling some strange poses and faces for which I apologise!

I've taken my specs off so I'm squinting at the camera to see if the timer light was actually on! I also caught my charm bracelt on my waistcoat so couldn't move my arm...Really poor model!

The skirt is quite a new acquisition from Revival Vintage Clothing in Kendal. Although Kendal is only 10 miles from here I don't get through very often & only just discovered the shop existed. I bought a few things and had to stop myself buying more. Waistcoat & Blouse both eBay bargains.

This elasticated belt came free on a Jane Norman £3 sale skirt and I've worn it much more than the skirt.

I also have to mention my Sheila Fleet necklet which was a lovely gift from my father a few years ago. It is absolutely my favourite and I do wear it fairly often.

But back to that lovely skirt it is so long 45" and I'm so short 5'2" that I can only wear it with one pair of boots which were another eBay purchase.

Not that you can tell from this angle ut they have a little bit of a platform sole and a 5" heel but as long as I wear a pair of knee sock over my tights I can wear them all day without a problem.

Hope you all had a great Bonfire weekend.

The local display at the rugby club was postponed to Sunday due to a match on the saturday it was fab really spectacular for a local display. The Mulled Wine kept us warm but we forgot the camera, so sadly no pictures which was a shame as some of the fireworks had little parachutes!

Before that though Mr Pixie & I took advantage of the sunny weather and had a Sunday afternoon walk up Loughrigg. The Goddess of Parking was with us again and we got the last place in the Free Car Park (One of the last free car parks left in the Lakes.)

Our first stop was at Rydal Caves, man-made but they still have a sense of peace & beauty.

Unfortunately the National Park have installed steps on the most popular ascent route, I know it prevents erosion but it is pretty hard on your legs. We had regular stops to admire the views,

but eventually made the summit, where it was pretty windy
hence the hats and my hair tucked into my cardi!

All in all a great day, free of offspring and work commitments.

Welcome to my new blogging venture.

I'm often asked if my love of vintage spills over into my non Fruit Pixie life and the answer is a resounding yes, in everything but particularly with my clothing. I don't necessarily buy original pieces, many are way above my budget constraints anyway but I do like an older style. Like most girls I went through a fair few fashion trends in my teens from making my own clothes to keep up with the latest styles as a schoolgirl, through the goth and hippy phases while a student, melding in to a more mainsteam long skirt/dress with boots combination for the world of work in which I eventually stuck. To be honest I'm still drawn to Black, 20 years after I left the Black lipstick, Nail Varnish & The Sisters of Mercy behind!
I never lost my poverty struck student love of charity & vintage shopping and I hope to share some of my wardrobe choices, thrifty bargains and updates on renovations over at Cote Weggs which is a VERY long term project!!

The weather up here in the lakes has been totally rubbish today so in lieu of an outfit shot I'll leave you with a few of my recent buys & acquisitions.

2 1970s coffee jars, 1 'donated' from my mum's Kitchen Window sill, the other 10p from the Unitarian Chapel sale table both gainfully re-employed as kitchen storage jars.

1950's cake forks from the local Vintage Fair not really a bargain at £7 but I've been after a set for ages and they are in the original box...

Horse Brass to join my collection over the Rayburn 10p, Unitarian Chapel, 1960's pillow case set unused Wedding Present discovered in my parents Linen Cupboard (They've been married 42 years!) and broken pottery brooch £2 Vintage Fair.
